Information about the area
The Aigai archaeological site is located in 70 km from Thessaloniki, 13 km from Veroia, 40 km from Naoussa and the archaeological site of Mieza, 69 km from Edessa and the archaeological site of Loggos, 60 km from Pella, 30 km from the coast of Pieria, 75 km from the archaeological site of Dion and 65 km from the archaeological site of Aiani, and at a distance of only 8 km from the Veroia interchange of the Egnatia Motorway and 24 km from the nearest exit to the PAThE Motorway.
Thanks to its location, the Aigai site necessarily occupies a central position in the Macedonia Archaeological Sites Network, not only from a historical point of view but also for reasons of connectivity, benefiting from its direct access to the Macedonia Airport and the Thessaloniki Port and Rail Station via the PAThE-Egnatia network.
The Veroia-Meliki road runs across the whole length of the archaeological site providing direct connection to the Pieria coast, while the country road crossing the western Pieria Mountains and the Makedonida Municipality connects Aigai to Velvendos and Elassona, as well as Katafigi, Petra and Olympus Mountain through a route of exceptional natural beauty. The route that leads to Dion through Sikia and Riakia crossing the forested slopes of the eastern Pieria Mountains is of equal beauty.
